Write Conservation History
Name Our New Patrol Vessel
Sea Shepherd is inviting its supporters around the world to be a part of conservation history, announcing a worldwide competition to name the newest addition to its ocean defense fleet.
In January 2015, the Dutch Postcode Lottery, the People’s Postcode Lottery in the United Kingdom and the Svenska Postkod Stiftelsen in Sweden together granted 8.3 million euros to Sea Shepherd for the construction of a new Patrol Vessel.
The custom-designed ship is currently under construction in Turkey by Dutch shipbuilder Damen. Production is scheduled for completion in September 2016.
Over the next eight months, what is now just a shell of steel works will be transformed into a custom-designed, state of the art conservation vessel. The new ship will be capable of achieving speeds that far exceed any of the vessels in Sea Shepherd’s current fleet, and will be able to operate in extreme weather conditions.
Sea Shepherd is driven by the passion of our volunteers and our supporters, whose desire to see the world’s oceans and the precious marine life within them protected from environmental criminals, keeps our fleet afloat. Now, we invite all of our supporters around the world to help us write the next chapter in Sea Shepherd’s history by naming our new Patrol Vessel.
To enter the competition, entrants simply need to email their entries for the new vessel name to: firstname.lastname@example.org
The winning name will be announced in March 2016, prior to the ship’s launch in September. In case multiple people send in the chosen name, a raffle will determine the winner.
The winner will receive an invitation to the launch ceremony for the New Patrol Vessel.*
The competition closes at 23:59 CET on March 1, 2016.
